Man killed by train in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY — A pedestrian was killed by a train in west Johnson City on Saturday.

Police said Lavern Wampler, 50, was killed by a train on the CSX Railroad tracks near the Boys and Girls Club on West Market Street. Police were called to the scene about 10:30 p.m.

Wampler, a man from Cherokee, Iowa, who had lived in and around Johnson City dating back to 1999, was pronounced dead at the scene.
