On Tuesday, a federal grand jury handed down indictments with 38 felony charges against Dr. Anindya Kumar Sen and his wife, Patricia Posey Sen, of the East Tennessee Cancer and Blood Center. Patricia Posey Sen is the center's practice manager.
The charges stem from purchases drugs not approved by US Food and Drug Administration from a drug provider in Canada beginning April 2009 through March 2012. Court documents alleged that the Sens knowingly bought the misbranded drugs, provided them to their patients and billed Medicare and other government and private health benefits programs for about $3.2 million.
