Earlier in the month, a grand jury indicted a Washington County constable on two felony charges — auto burglary and theft over $1,000.
Joshua Layne Burleson has been serving as county constable since August and also works for the county Highway Department.
According to the presentment, Burleson is accused of entering a vehicle without the owner’s consent and removing a Santa Cruz Blurr bicycle in early September.
District Attorney General Tony Clark said the bike is valued at around $4,000 and was reported stolen by a Jonesborough resident.
“This bicycle was found at a pawn shop in Johnson City,” Clark said.
