Do you know everything you need to know to go boating this summer? No?

There’s a class for that.

America’s Boating Course with TWRA exam, a four-session class, is set for May 28, May 30, June 4 and June 6 at the Northeast State library (Room L-106).

The dates fall on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and each session lasts 2½ hours, 5:30-8 p.m. There also is a hands-on, on-the-water demonstration Saturday, June 1 at Boone Lake.

Pre-registration is required.

This beginner boating course addresses boat handling under normal conditions, adverse conditions and emergencies; types of boats and boating terminology; required and recommended equipment; boating regulations and navigation rules including Tennessee-specific laws; lines and knots; introduction to charts, navigation aids and piloting techniques; marine radio/telephone usage; and trailer boating.

There is a nominal fee to cover material costs. Students wishing to take the TWRA Safe Boating Exam at the completion of the class will need to purchase the TWRA Safe Boating Exam Permit ($10) from any hunting/fishing license vendor prior to the last class.
