Kaine plans full day of SW Virginia visits Saturday

ABINGDON — Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) will tour the Abingdon Farmers Market and speak with local vendors today Saturday before visiting the old Rock School in Damascus to join those attending a high school reunion.

Kaine will also visit the Damascus branch of the Washington County Public Library and meet members of the Whittling Club. The senator also plans to participate in the annual Trail Days celebration by attending a bluegrass concert.

Kaine will return to Abingdon and conclude his rounds at the Virginia Highlands Songwriters Festival.

The senator’s complete schedule is to tour the Abingdon Farmers Market on Remsburg Drive at 10 a.m., visit with Rock School Alumni at the Reunion Celebration beginning at 11:15 a.m. at the Old Rock School on 505 S. Shady Ave., and tour the Damascus Library branch on 310 Water St., beginning at 11:35 a.m.

Kaine is scheduled to be at the Trail Days Concert at the Damascus Town Park beginning at noon, then wrap his day at the Virginia Highlands Songwriters Festival, including the Richard Leigh and Friends Concert, at 6 p.m.

The festival will be at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center off French Moore Jr. Boulevard in Abingdon.
