One of the two individuals shot at a Kingsport apartment complex on Tuesday night has been released from the hospital and booked into jail, held on felony drug charges, ID theft, and failing to register as a sex offender.
Kingsport Police say he's also a fugitive of justice in his home state of Georgia. Damien Maurice Buxton, 34, of Lithonia, Ga., was released from Holston Valley Medical Center on Thursday night then arrested. Court records say he was booked into the city jail for possession of more 26 grams of cocaine for resale. According to KPD Community Relations Officer Tom Patton, officers later learned Buxton had given them a false name, Charles Creadle, and was wanted by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office in Conyers, Ga. He's also a registered sex offender, according to Patton, who failed to register when he crossed the state line into Tennessee. Court records state he admitted to staying at the Allen Creek Apartment for the, "past several days."At 10:30 Tuesday night police responded to the complex, 402 Allen Drive, finding Buxton with "multiple" gunshot wounds. He was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center by EMS. Meanwhile, a search of where the incident occurred, apartment 107, allegedly revealed more than 26 grams of crack cocaine in a refrigerator. The tenant, Tiffani S. Conn, 35, was arrested at the scene. As of Friday afternoon she was held at the Sullivan County jail in Blountville on $20,000 bond. Patton says that as Buxton was being treated at the hospital another person voluntarily arrived, also suffering gunshot wounds. Investigators have labeled that individual as a "person of interest" but have declined to publicly release their identity. Buxton is currently held in the Kingsport jail without bond. An investigation into the incident is ongoing with additional charges pending.
