Sheriff: Stranded motorist ruse used to commit robbery in Greene County

GREENEVILLE — Good samaritans were robbed at gunpoint Saturday in Greene County after stopping to help someone posing as a stranded motorist, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns said in a news release the robbery happened on State Route 70-South, also known as the Asheville Highway, around 6 p.m. Saturday.Burns said two men and a woman had pulled a faded red late 1980s or early 1990s model GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet S-10 Blazer sport utility vehicle to the side of the road and raised the hood to give the pretense of car trouble.
