Two Kingsport women have been identified as the victims of a fatal head-on collision from Saturday night, triggered by one of the drivers traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 26.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:51 p.m. near mile marker 2. Kingsport Police Officer Dale Farmer reports Lisa M. West, 40, of 380 Crawford Road, was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry west on the eastbound lanes of I-26. It is not currently known which exit she entered the wrong lanes of traffic.

West's car hit a 2002 Toyota Camry traveling the correct direction on interstate, driven by Laura S. Duncan, 45, of 701 Westwood Circle, Kingsport. The head-on collision killed both Duncan and West, with police saying neither woman was wearing their seatbelt.

A 2006 Nissan Sentra was also involved in the incident, after the driver swerved to avoid hitting either of the Toyotas. The Nissan exited the roadway and overturned, but the driver, Kayla Morelock, 19, of 5729 Starlight Road, Kingsport, suffered only minor injuries.

Officer Farmer says police are still investigating the incident, with witnesses scheduled to be interviewed at the police department on Monday.
