Police say Kingsport man tried to smother ex-girlfriend with plastic

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport man has been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after allegedly trying to smother his ex-girlfriend with plastic and holding her against her will.

Casey Gibson, 36, Leeland Drive, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000.

According to police, the incident occurred when Gibson’s ex-girlfriend showed up at his home to collect some of her belongings. Once she was there, Gibson began screaming at her. He then allegedly placed a large piece of plastic on her head causing her to black out.

When the victim came to, Gibson again allegedly placed the plastic over her head until she passed out. When she awoke again, Gibson allegedly held her against her will. She was finally able to get away once Gibson left the room. She ran out of his house and called 911.

After investigating further, detectives found Gibson had also allegedly broken into a neighbor’s home and taken numerous items including electronics, antiques and jewelry.
