Police investigate felony theft from vending truck in Piney Flats

staff report • Apr 25, 2013 at 11:56 AM

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of more than $500 in cash and coins from a vending truck within Piney Flat's Tri-County Industrial Park.

The theft allegedly occurred Tuesday as a driver for Canteen Vending was making a delivery. Surveillance cameras from Bell Helicopter captured images of a potential suspect, according to a police report, who first walked into the lobby of a business to, "ask a question about a tree in front of the building."

After that cameras allegedly recorded him walking behind dumpsters at the rear of the vending truck. After that he reportedly returned to his vehicle — a small, dark green, extended cab truck — threw the bag inside and drove away.

Police report a lock was cut off the back of the delivery truck to make entry, with the money then removed from a safe located inside.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect pictured is asked to contact the SCSO at (423) 279-7500, ext. 222. Tips can also be submitted anonymously by visiting www.scsotn.com and clicking the submit tip icon.
