Police: Cellphone distraction caused fatal I-40 crash

Phone records obtained by police show a Candler woman killed in an April 1 crash on Interstate 40 was using her cellphone just before impact.

The investigation determined the accident that claimed the life of Donna Evans May was caused by the distraction of using the phone, Officer Ann Fowler said.

The records show that May was repeatedly dialing a number when her car slammed into the rear of another vehicle on the interstate.
