Jim Wozniak, media relations coordinator for Wellmont, said the satellite office, dubbed Wellmont Physical Therapy at the YMCA, would have services similar to the ones offered at the Sullivan Center on Stone Drive, including orthopedic therapy, post surgery rehabilitation and sports medicine services.
The new office does not replace the Sullivan Center.
“We’re certainly excited with the opportunity to provide additional physical therapy locations within the community, and we hope we’ve added a measure of convenience for the residents of Kingsport who may live or work in that part of town,” Wozniak said.
“It’s just an extra layer of convenience, to have another outlet for outpatient therapy needs.”
The new office will be 775 square feet in size and located on the second floor of the YMCA, adjacent to the weight and cross-training equipment.
The office will have a full-time therapist, and patients will not have to be a member of the YMCA to utilize the services.
Hours will be Monday through Friday, normal daytime hours with the possibility of before and after work appointments, Wozniak said. The office is scheduled to open at the same time as the aquatic center/YMCA: May 17th.
Wellmont Health Systems donated $2 million to the YMCA for the non-profit’s campaign to build its new facility, a facility which now bears Wellmont’s name.
Formed in 1996, Wellmont Health Systems is a leading health care provider in the Tri-Cities region with hospitals and health care facilities in Kingsport, Bristol, Greeneville, Rogersville and Southwest Virginia.
