Kimberly Estep tossed the note into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Bahamas. She included her email address and phone number with a request to get in touch and let her know where the note was found.
Estep told the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/ZZ3w03) her friends laughed at her, but after a 4,000 mile journey, the note was found by Daniel Sempiana.
Sempiana in an email said that when he called Estep, speaking broken English with a French accent, she thought it was a joke. Then she was elated. Since then, they have continued to correspond by email and are now friends.
