MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Police Department has fired an officer who was accused of flashing his gun at a motorist while off duty.

According to The Commercial Appeal Officer Darrell Malone was riding with other motorcyclists on Oct. 24 when a motorist called out to them that he would call police if they kept driving recklessly. The driver told police one of the riders showed him a gun at his waist and said he was an officer. Malone told investigators he was cut off by a sport utility vehicle and his weapon might have been visible as he tried to flag it down.

The man who reported the incident also said Malone called his phone. Police radio operator Jenny Rice was suspended on suspicion of giving Malone the caller's personal information.
