Aaron Hooker, 24, Harr Trail Road, was charged with assault on an officer, felony vandalism, parole violation and failure to appear.
After being arrested Hooker, who was wounded while being apprehended, was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment. Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart said Monday that Hooker’s injuries were non-life threatening, and he will be taken to the Sullivan County Correctional Facility when he is released from the hospital.
According to the Sheriff's Office, officers received a report of a disturbance between two brothers just before midnight Sunday. When officers arrived at the Harr Trail Road address in Blountville, the victim told officers his brother was intoxicated and had become upset over something he said.
Dispatch informed officers that Aaron Hooker, who had already left the home on Harr Trail Road before officers arrived, had three outstanding warrants for felony vandalism, a parole violation, and failure to appear on aggravated burglary charges.
Officers received information that Hooker could be at 5644 Apache Drive in Blountville, and when they spoke with a woman at the home they were told that Hooker was hiding downstairs, possibly in a bedroom or a crawl space.
According to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office report, officers went downstairs and gave several verbal commands to Hooker, telling him to come out. When Hooker did not respond, Officer Matt Cole released his K9 partner Diablo into the crawl space underneath the home. K9 Diablo apprehended Hooker, but instead of surrendering, Hooker allegedly punched the K9, and K9 Diablo once again apprehended Hooker.
"The suspect again fought the K9 causing him to have to apprehend Mr. Hooker for a third time. K9 Diablo held the suspect until Officer Cole could get to the suspect and gain compliance. Aaron Hooker was then placed into handcuffs and taken into custody for the active arrest warrants," according to a sheriff's office news release.
While being taken outside, Hooker allegedly spit blood and saliva into Cole’s face. As a result, Hooker was charged with assault on an officer.
