KINGSPORT — A woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly making a puncture wound outside and inside her 6-year-old daughter’s mouth.

According to a Saturday afternoon news release from the Kingsport Police Department, Eva K. Ledford, 28, was arrested after an incident that occurred around 10 a.m. at her residence, 1037 Bloomingdale Pike, Apartment 112.

The release said the mother allegedly struck the daughter, “causing a puncture wound outside her mouth and further injury inside.”

The girl was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center to have stitches to close the wound. The Department of Children’s Services was called and removed the 6-year-old and another 8-month-old child from the care of the suspect.

“There is evidence this is an ongoing problem in the home,” the release said.

Ledford is being held without bond until she can be evaluated and custody determined, the release said.

Ledford will be arraigned Monday at 9 a.m.
