Latoyia I. Griffith, 28, is charged with aggravated assault in the late Tuesday night incident. Approximately 80 minutes after the alleged stabbing she was located at a local motel, where police say she was uncooperative and additionally charged with resisting arrest.
No weapon was located, with Griffth reportedly telling police she "couldn't remember" what she used.
The incident occurred at Applebee's on East Stone Drive. A Kingsport Police Department arrest report states the victim, a 35-year-old employee, had received a call from Griffith while working, with her saying she had, "thrown his stuff out." At approximately 11 p.m. Griffith arrived at the restaurant.
The police report states the man went to the front of the business to meet his wife, who was holding two of their children. Griffith allegedly handed her husband their youngest child and said they needed to talk. The man reportedly replied that there was nothing to discuss, turned away and began walking back to the kitchen with the child in his arms.
At that point, according to the police report, the man felt Griffith "hit" him in the shoulder. When he reached the kitchen he noticed blood on his shirt, handed the child to a coworker and waited for his wife to leave. Once she had done so a friend transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Police responded to the hospital to find him receiving stitches to a pair of cuts on his shoulder. They then visited a room at the Budget Inn, 1704 East Stone Drive, to speak with Griffith.
According to the report Griffith initially denied stabbing her husband. When told she was under arrest she allegedly refused to place her hands behind her back and attempted to pull away from police.
One restrained and taken to the city jail Griffith was again asked about the alleged attack. When questioned on what she had used to stab her husband, according to the arrest report, Griffith stated she "couldn't remember."
