Arrest made in armed robbery of Kingsport Sunoco

Kingsport police have arrested a man who allegedly entered a Lynn Garden Drive convenience store early Friday morning, pointed a handgun at the clerk and fled with money.

According to an affidavit filed in Kingsport court, the employee recognized the suspect as a "regular customer" and identified him by name. Jeffrey Scott Kendrick Jr., 24, of 118 Walker St. No. 11 was apprehended a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. at the Sunoco, 1205 Lynn Garden Drive. Police report that upon locating Kendrick they also found the stolen cash and gun used in the incident.

Kendrick was arraigned Friday morning with a court date set for Jan 10. He was additionally charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, stemming from a 2009 conviction in Sullivan County.
