Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Reba Matthews was dispatched Monday around 3 p.m. to Substation Road in Mooresburg on a complaint of a female in a blue truck acting suspiciously. Upon her arrival Matthews found a female driving the truck, and Shannon Dale "Shane" Herron, 30, 203 Big Hill Road, Mooresburg, was a passenger. There was also another male standing outside the pickup.
Matthews stated in her report she observed syringes and other drug paraphernalia lying in plain view in the truck, so she called for backup and obtained permission to search from the female.Deputies allegedly found a backpack in the bed of the pickup that contained a one-pot meth lab that was in the midst of a cook, as well as various meth lab components.
Herron allegedly stated the meth lab was his and said the other two didn’t know it was there. The other two were then released without charges.
During the investigation it was also determined that Herron was wanted by the HCSO for solicitation of a minor.
On Nov. 23, 2011 the mother of the victim told the HCSO that her 14-year-old daughter had received text messages on her cell phone of a sexual nature from Herron, who also allegedly sent the girl photos of himself.
HCSO Detective Chris Price said Herron admitted that the phone number the illicit text messages had been sent from were was his.
"Some of the messages on the juvenile’s cell phone were about sexual acts the sender wanted to perform on her, and how the sender couldn’t wait to do them," Price stated in the arrest warrant affidavit. "(Herron) stated that he knowingly engaged sexual conversations with (the juvenile) who he knew was underage. He also stated that in the text messaged he described sexual acts he would like to perform on her."
Herron was charged with manufacturing meth and solicitation of a minor. As of Tuesday he remained held in the Hawkins County Jail on $75,000 bond with arraignment set for Wednesday.
