Shortly after 3 p.m. last Thursday, Rogersville Police Department Officer George Henry was dispatched to the Walmart store on a complaint of two men pushing two TVs out of the store in a shopping cart without paying.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a blue 1996 GMC Sonoma pickup and also provided Henry with the tag number.
Witnesses also said the vehicle left the Walmart parking lot headed north on Route 66.
A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued for the pickup by Hawkins County Central Dispatch.
A short time later, the pickup was spotted by Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Keith Long traveling west on Melinda Ferry Road.
Long conducted a traffic stop on Ely Road and identified the occupants of the vehicle as Alan Dale Myers, 43, 174 Grassy Valley Road, Rogersville, and Jarrod Lynn Boatwright, 41, 1328 Oak St., Morristown.
According to Henry’s report, Long found two 32-inch Visio flat-screen TVs in the bed of the pickup.
Myers and Boatwright were unable to show proof of purchase for the TVs and allegedly admitted to the theft.
The TVs were valued at $248 each for a total of $496 — missing the felony theft cutoff by $4.
Both were charged with misdemeanor theft under $500 and were released on bond later that night.
Boatwright is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 29, and Myers will be arraigned Oct. 31.
