Spaceport official to visit Wise County

WISE — Zigmond “Zig” Leszcynski, deputy director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island, Va., will provide two public lectures at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and Mountain Empire Community College today and meet with students at a Wise County high school. The public lectures will be held at 9:25 a.m. in Room 155 of MECC’s Godwin Hall and at 3:30 p.m. in Room 104 of Smiddy Hall at UVa-Wise. Leszcynski will address upcoming missions such as the NASA Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer during the public lectures at the colleges and promote studentdesigned space science experiments when meeting with students at Eastside High School in Coeburn at 1 p.m. Leszcynski serves as the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority’s project manager for the lunar mission scheduled to launch in August of next year.
