Man killed in Piney Flats tractor rollover

A late Thursday morning tractor accident in Piney Flats has killed a man, as the vehicle rolled over while he was attempting to move timber.

The identity of the man has yet to be released, pending notification of his next of kin. Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart says the accident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at 609 Hunting Hill Road, a property the victim and other workers had permission to log.

Police say the man was attempting to move logs when the tractor he was operating began to roll. He reportedly attempted to jump from the seat but was unsuccessful, becoming pinned beneath.

Med flight was initially requested at the scene but called off by first responders on the ground. Sullivan County police, Sullivan County EMS and the Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday police had not identified the victim.
