A Kingsport man has been arrested after allegedly failing to return a vehicle he rented more than three months ago in Ohio, telling police he assumed it had been reported stolen but, "planned to work to pay the overdue bill off."

Jason Laforce, 41, of 243 Country Lane, No. 5, is charged by Kingsport Police with possession of stolen property valued at more than $10,000. KPD Det. Greg Lane says Laforce faces additional charges from the Boardman Police Department in Boardman Township, Ohio, where a Hertz Rental dealership reported the vehicle as stolen.

The 2012 Toyota RAV4 was rented June 30, according to police, and due back July 1. Boardman police contacted Kingsport investigators due to information Laforce provided Hertz when renting the SUV in Cincinnati. The KPD issued a BOLO for the vehicle, which was located Tuesday in a parking lot on Allen Drive.

Police visited a nearby apartment where Laforce was believed to be located, but an occupant reported Laforce was at work at a location on West Stone Drive. Police responded to that location, took Laforce into custody and transported him to the police department.

During subsequent questioning Laforce reportedly admitted to renting the SUV in Ohio "sometime in July" — adding that he, "planned to work to pay the overdue bill off." He was booked into jail on charges of theft of more than $10,000. Additional charges are pending in Ohio.
