The ride concluded on East Sullivan Street, where a skid mark at least 120 feet long shows he locked the motorcycle’s brakes before hitting the rear of a Honda Odyssey at the intersection with Center. The rider, who was identified by police as Harley Ramey, 24, 1529 Bristol Caverns Highway, Bristol, Tenn., was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center with head injuries.
“He was hauling ass,” said a man at the scene who observed the lockup and collision, shaking his head in dismay.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Kingsport Police Department Officer Matt Stewart said multiple witnesses reported the motorcycle traveling 100 mph on nearby Main Street.
Kingsport Police Chief Gale Osborne told the Times-News that he also witnessed the rider traveling that fast on Center Street. Osborne added that the man had taken the bike on a test drive from Cycle City on nearby East Market.
The Odyssey’s driver was identified as Stephen Dwyer. Police said he was not injured in the crash.
Stewart said Ramey would be arrested and charged with multiple offenses including speeding and reckless driving.
