Sullivan Central AD resigns amidst police investigation

The athletic director and head baseball coach of Sullivan Central High School has abruptly resigned. Authorities confirmed Tuesday that he is being investigated by police.

Sullivan County Director of Schools Jubal Yennie reports Brandon Krantz resigned Monday from his duties at the Blountville school, located at 131 Shipley Ferry Road. Yennie said the resignation is effective immediately.

Kingsport Police Department Lt. Bob Abernathy confirmed an investigation into allegations against Krantz is ongoing. He declined to elaborate on the case, nature of the alleged crimes or when an investigation began. As of Tuesday charges had not been placed.

Yennie said Krantz has been an employee of the Sullivan County Department of Education for 12 years, serving Central High School as a physical education teacher, athletic director and head baseball coach.

As for how the school will cope with being left short-handed by the sudden retirement — two weeks before the start of the school year — Yennie said, "We're filling positions as best we can." When asked if he was aware of the investigation into allegations against Krantz, Yennie said he has not been "formally" contacted by police.

Times-News attempts to reach Krantz for comment on Monday and Tuesday were unsuccessful.
