More than 30 marijuana plants have been discovered during the execution of a Kingsport search warrant, along with what investigators are categorizing as "pounds" of mushrooms.

The exact amount has to be weighed and determined in the Tennessee Bureau of Investiagtion lab, but police are calling the operation "huge" — and the largest such discovery in years within the Model City.

The search warrant was executed Sept. 12 at 1321 Harrison Ave. Kingsport police issued a press release on the incident Wednesday morning, with detectives saying the announcement was delayed due to the large amount of evidence — more than 200 pieces — which had to be processed.

The KPD SWAT team descended on the home last Monday night, as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The residents, Nathan Frazier, 27, and Bryson Steel, 29, were located inside.

Police report that while executing a search warrant a hydroponic marijuana grow was discovered, consisting of more than 30 plants. One pound of processed marijuana was also allegedly found in the home, along with the "huge" psilocybin mushroom grow operation.

Photos that police released of the scene show at least 20 bags of birdseed within the home. A Vice Detective said the suspects were growing spores within those bags of seed, then transporting them to large buckets of potting soil to reach full maturation and produce the mushrooms.

Both Frazier and Steel were arrested and transported to the city jail. They were each charged with manufacturing and possession of schedule I and schedule VI narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are used, sold or stored.

Police say three handguns were also discovered in the residence, prompting an additional charge against Frazier of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Frazier and Steel were later transported to the Sullivan County jail in Blountville, with their bond set at $60,000 each. They both posted bond late last week and were released.
