KINGSPORT — Well, that’s it for fireworks in the Model City. During its regular meeting tonight, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen will consider a resolution banning the sale, use and possession of fireworks within the city limits. A violation would result in a $50 fine plus court costs. The ban does not apply to fireworks displays conducted by professionals for such events as Independence Day or Fun Fest, nor does it apply to wholesalers as long as the fireworks are shipped out of the city limits. Mayor Dennis Phillips called for the ban last week in light of the hundreds of complaints he has received over the past two weeks about fireworks being shot at night and after midnight.
