KINGSPORT — Dakota Reynolds became Miss Kingsport 2012 Saturday night before a crowd of several hundred people at the Toy F. Reid Employee Center.

Reynolds, 18, was among nine area young women who vied for the crown in the 58th annual Miss Kingsport Scholarship Pageant presented by the Kingsport Jaycees.

Besides a $2,000 scholarship and a slot in the competition for Miss Tennessee 2012, Reynolds also won a photo session with photographer Crystal East, a one-year fitness membership, courtesy of The Great Body Co., a $400 gift certificate to Tricia’s By Design that will go toward her pageant wardrobe for the Miss Tennessee competition and tanning coupons from Sun Tan City, and, of course, the trademark pageant crown and sash.

The public part of the pageant consisted of four components graded on a scale where 100 would be perfect by judges Michael Goins, Tracy Broadwater, Sherrie Gallimore, Liz Waugh Mabie and Aundrea Wilcox: up to five points for on-stage questioning, up to 15 points for lifestyle, fitness and swimsuit, up to 35 points for talent and up to 20 points for evening wear. Private interviews with judges earlier in the day made up the other 25 points.

Each contestant had to have a platform or issue that she supports and would promote in the community if crowned Miss Kingsport.
