Hill pledges redistricting to be 'based on numbers'

Tennessee House redistricting will be done “based on numbers, not personalities,” state Rep. Matthew Hill promises. Hill, R-Jonesborough, is overseeing the Northeast Tennessee portion of a GOP committee’s effort to redraw political boundaries in the state House based on the latest U.S. Census. House district populations will grow from about 56,000 in 2002 to approximately 64,000 next year, he said. Just about the only other guarantee made by Hill was that Washington County — which grew nearly 15 percent in the past decade and now has almost 123,000 people — will be evenly divided and have two state representatives.
