Police have arrested a Kingsport man after he allegedly kicked in the door to his elderly mother's home, broke through a barricade she had placed at a bedroom and beat her with a shoe.

The victim, 77, incurred a large knot to her head and was transported to Indian Path Medical Center. Her son faces charges of aggravated domestic assault, burglary and elder abuse.

According to a report at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday. The victim told police her son, Jeffery East, 42, had been staying off and on at her residence, 210 Stuffle St. She would report East left with an unknown man earlier in the morning, adding he had been trading his food stamps for pills each month.

The police report says she locked up her residence when East left, with him returning to find he could not get inside. The woman says her son began kicking the patio door and screaming he was going to kill her, prompting her to call 911.

She then went to her bedroom and pushed a chest of drawers against the door. East reportedly kicked in the patio door and made his way straight to his mother's room, beating that door until he made entry.

East is alleged to have pushed his mother onto a bed and picked up a shoe to beat her with. While striking her, according to the victim, he continued to scream he was going to kill her.

The responding officer reports walking through the broken patio door and announcing his presence. The woman allegedly called for help and met the officer in the hallway, relaying that she did not know if her son was still inside the home.

Police report finding East hiding in a bathroom and taking him into custody. At the Sullivan County jail he reportedly became very lethargic and was checked by a nurse. She advised he needed to be taken to the hospital and was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center for further care.

On Friday morning SCSO Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart reported East was still hospitalized and in the custody of an officer.
