Husband of murdered Tennessee soldier given life sentence

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Montgomery County jury has found the husband of a Fort Campbell soldier guilty of first-degree murder and kidnapping for stabbing his wife to death in 2009.Khaleefa Lambert received an automatic life sentence with eligibility for parole following his conviction on Wednesday in the death of 18-year-old Pfc. Ashley Barnes, who was stabbed 16 times in the parking lot of a Clarksville motel.Barnes was home on leave from Afghanistan to file for a divorce days before the stabbing.Michelle Bosarge, Barnes' mother, told the Leaf-Chronicle she has started support groups for families of murder victims and called her daughter "a sweet, kind-hearted person whose love knew no boundaries."Public defender Roger Nell said Lambert is remorseful and admitted to his actions during the trial held this week.
