At the beginning of the year, staff photographer Ned Jilton II suffered a knee injury during an assignment and began the long journey of recovery. He was out for about half the year.
We brought in Kingsport native Kris Wilson, who recently finished his service in the Navy as a photojournalist, to help us produce photos for the newspaper. We are grateful for his help and have featured some of his excellent talent in our slideshow.
This year we look back and remember some of the photos that were featured in our paper, including Sullivan County Resource Officer Carolyn Gudger’s heroic actions at Sullivan Central High School, the homecoming of former Korean War POW Master Sgt. Roy E. Head, the loss of two wolves at Bays Mountain Park, summer parades and fairs, Bristol Motor Speedway race fans and more unique moments to Kingsport.
And Ned returned by the end of the summer and still managed to turn out some great photos, with a wobbly knee no less!
So sit back and enjoy the pictures. Be sure to click “caption” to read more about each one. We sized the photos to be pretty large, so if they are too big, click the last icon to the right with the arrows pointing to the corners.
Thank you for sharing your stories with us and allowing us to document these moments both big and small.
