A Kingsport woman has been arrested after allegedly driving while under the influence in the police department parking lot, nearly striking a pedestrian.

Police say they found her car parked across two parking spaces. While speaking with officers she allegedly admitted to drinking brandy and taking several medications.

The incident occurred at 5 p.m. Monday at the Kingsport Justice Center, 200 Shelby St. According to an arrest report, central dispatch recieved a call of a reckless, possibly intoxicated driver pulling a Buick Lesabre into the parking lot.

The reporting officer says he found the car parked across two parking spaces. On his way to the car two individuals allegedly approached the officer, saying the driver had nearly ran over a pedestrian.

The driver was identified as Wanona F. Zurn, 58, of 3421 Reservoir Road, Kingsport. Police say she was slow to answer questions, admitted to drinking liquor and taking "several medications."

Zurn allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was transported to the hospital for a blood test. She was then booked into the city jail on charges of driving under the influence.
