A Friday morning wreck on Highway 11-W sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with severe injuries, and facing a partial amputation of one leg.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Greer, the motorcycle was traveling north on 11-W behind a Ford Escort. When the Escort slowed to turn right onto Spring Drive the motorcycle struck it in the rear.

The rider, Ronnie Gordon, 60, of 813 Watauga St., Kingsport, was thrown from his 2005 Suzuki street bike. Shortly after noon on Friday he was undergoing surgery in Hoslton Valley Medical Center, with Trooper Greer saying his injuries would likely force one leg to be amputated below the knee.

The driver of the car was identified as Linda Holtzclaw, 57, of 905 New Beason Well Road, Kingsport. The crash remains under investigation with charges pending.
