Police are searching for the suspect in a Thursday purse snatching attempt at a Kingsport shopping center, as well as an accomplice who drove a getaway vehicle from the scene.

The incident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. at East Stone Commons, 2003 North Eastman Road. According to Kingsport Police Department Det. Chris Tincher, a woman was on the sidewalk outside of Spirit Halloween when a man approached her from behind, attempting to rip the purse from her shoulder.

Tincher said the woman was pulled to the ground before the suspect, a white male, gave up and hopped in a nearby vehicle without the purse. The vehicle, described as a dark colored or green SUV, was driven by a female. It exited the shopping plaza via a back exit that leads to an adjacent Kmart store.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Kingsport detectives at 229-9429. The victim incurred minor scrapes in the incident.
