During the brief chase, the suspect's vehicle is alleged to have "narrowly missed" city workers making road repairs, the rolled into a mobile home when he bailed from behind the wheel to run.
According to a Kingsport police arrest report, Allen L. McClellan, 25, of 3229 Brownlow Road, is charged with felony evading arrest, five counts of felony reckless endangerment, attempt to possess cocaine, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license.
Police say that at about 11 p.m. Wednesday a phone seized during a previous drug investigation began to ring. A detective answered it and spoke with a man allegedly seeking to buy cocaine, then arranged to meet him in the parking lot of Dairy Queen on Lynn Garden Drive.
According to the report, a Mitsubishi Galant arrived at the agreed upon time, with police pulling in front of it in an attempt to make a traffic stop. The driver allegedly put the car in reverse and fled the parking lot, heading north on Lynn Garden Drive.
Police say the suspect's vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, and narrowly missed city workers making road repairs. With police in pursuit, the vehicle turned left onto Mull Street, then left onto Emmett Street.
The driver, later identified as McClellan, allegedly pulled into 188 Emmett Street and, "jumped from the car." Police say the car continued to roll forward, striking and damaging the mobile home of a man who doesn't know McClellan.
After a short search officers say they found McClellan in a nearby home, hiding in the bathtub. The report did not specify if McClellan knew the resident. He was arrested and booked into the Kingsport city jail.
