Rogersville business robbed, owner shot

The owner of a Rogersville business was shot during a Tuesday morning robbery, with Rogersville Elementary School being placed on a brief lockdown as police searched for suspects.

Police say the shooting victim reports not knowing the robbers, and was transported to Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As of Tuesday afternoon police continued to search for two suspects, and did not know what items or cash they made away with.

According to a Rogersville Police Department spokesman, central dispatch received the robbery call at 8:06 a.m. The owner of Southern Quality Metals, 309 South Depot St.. reported being robbed and shot in the side.

Police say the suspects, a man and woman, fled the area on foot. As a precaution, nearby Rogersville Elementary School was placed on lockdown as police combed the area.

According to the victim, the woman was armed with a handgun. She is described as white, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, approximately 30 to 35-years-old with a thin face and dirty blonde hair. She is estimated at 120 lbs, and was last seen wearing a white short sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

The other suspect is a white male in his mid-20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, 150 to 160 lbs with dark shoulder length hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans shorts that fell just below the knee.
