Man arrested for allegedly driving 100 mph on Stone Drive

Kingsport police have arrested a 23-year-old Mount Carmel man after he was allegedly spotted driving more than 100 mph on Stone Drive.

According to a police report, at 3:35 Sunday morning an officer was in the parking lot of McDonald's on West Stone Drive. A 2007 Nissan 350Z was allegedly spotted traveling east, "in excess of 100 mph in a 55 mph zone."

The officer's report says the Nissan quickly braked and turned right to access the parking lot of Waffle House, 4215 W. Stone Drive. The officer then approached the driver and placed him into custody.

Matthew D. Trent, 23, of 108 Ashley Drive, Mount Carmel, was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. He allegedly had an odor of alcohol and "difficulty understanding instructions."

Police report he submitted to blood alcohol content testing, which returned positive at .09 percent. Trent was then charged with driving under the influence.

Since the incident occurred in Hawkins County, he was transported to the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office for booking.
