Kingsport scooter driver, traveling 5-10 mph on 11-W, charged with DUI

An allegedly intoxicated, 61-year-old Kingsport man has been arrested after police found him driving a scooter 5 to 10 mph on West Stone Drive.

According to a Kingsport police arrest report, the incident occurred at 3:44 Friday afternoon. The reporting officer says he observed a motor scooter westbound on Stone Drive near the Allandale Mansion, "moving at about 5 to 10 mph and causing a traffic hazard."

The scooter was stopped and driver identified as Carson L. Reed, 61, of 1117 E. Center St. Police say his license is revoked, and he has, "numerous DUI convictions."

The officer reports Reed had an odor of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and spoke with slurred speech. Police note attempting to administer field sobriety tests, "to no avail."

Reed was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. His 49 cc scooter, which allegedly had no tags, was seized.

Since the incident occurred in Hawkins County, Reed was transported to the Hawkins County jail for booking.
