A Kingsport road was temporarily closed Friday morning after a deer ran into the driver's side of a vehicle, forcing emergency crews to extricate the occupant and tow away the vehicle.

The victim, a 46-year-old male, was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center with unspecified injuries. As of Friday afternoon he was still being treated.

According to a Kingsport police report, the incident occurred at 8:02 a.m. A 2009 Subaru Impreza was eastbound on Netherland Inn Road, approaching the intersection with Bays Cove Road.

The reporting officer says a deer darted into the roadway and hit the car's left rear door. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, which deployed the Subaru's side air bag.

Kingsport Police Officer Dale Farmer said that when the man advised EMS workers of his pains, they decided to extricate him from the vehicle. The accident report says his vehicle incurred disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.
