An alleged DUI wreck prompted a search for the driver through several fields Wednesday evening in Piney Flats.

Police say they were speaking with the resident of a nearby home when a man was spotted running from a building. After a foot chase across the road and into another field, the suspect was apprehended.

According to a report at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, at about 7:40 p.m. a deputy was dispatched to a wreck at 765 Warren Road. A red SUV was found in the field, while a witness relayed the driver had ran over a nearby hill.

The deputy reports going the direction the witness had indicated, then speaking with a resident of 800 Warren Drive. They told police a man had ran through their yard and into a neighboring field.

A search of that field netted no results, according to the report, so the deputy went to 810 Warren Drive. While speaking with the resident, a man was allegedly spotted running from a building on the property. Police say he was ordered to stop but continued to flee.

According to the deputy's narrative, the man was pursued across the intersection of Warren Road and Rice Cross Road. The foot chase continued into another field before the suspect obeyed commands and halted.

Police identify the man as Mitchell Bowers, 35, of 133 Arrow Drive. He allegedly had an odor of alcohol and refused field sobriety and breath tests. A check of his license revealed it was revoked for a previous DUI conviction.

Bowers was arrested and charged with evading arrest, DUI, violation of implied consent and driving on a revoked license.
