A Kingsport man faces burglary and resisting arrest charges after allegedly breaking in a neighbor's home to collect on a debt.

Police say they found the suspect bleeding outside of the residence, with a wooden bat in his hand. He allegedly had to be pepper sprayed before running across the road, collapsing and being detained.

According to a Kingsport police arrest report, the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. Friday. The responding officer arrived to a break-in call at 905 Myrtle St., finding a man on the sidewalk.

Police say several people on the porch of the house said the man, who was carrying a wooden bat and bleeding, had broken into their home. To conduct a pat down the officer ordered the suspect, later identified as Mark A. Forbes, 42, of 910 Myrtle St., to the ground.

Forbes allegedly, "became very agitated and started cussing the people in the house and stood up." The officer's narrative says she told Forbes to lay back down several times, but he refused.

The officer reports that when Forbes stated, "what are you going to do," and walked towards her, she dispensed a two second burst of pepper spray.

"Forbes took off running into the yard across the street and collapsed in the front yard," reads the officer's narrative.

The victims told police Forbes had knocked on their door and they told him to leave. When they shut the door, he allegedly forced his way inside and charged two women.

Forbes was allegedly screaming, "that he wanted his money." According to the report, a male resident admitted to owing Forbes money, but claimed he currently didn't have the funds to repay him.

The bat Forbes was carrying when police arrived reportedly came from the victims' home. One resident allegedly said they had grabbed it to defend themselves, but Forbes wrestled it away before running outside.

Forbes was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, public intoxication and resisting stop, frisk and halt.
