Kingsport driver allegedly reaches for cell phone; hits sign, two fences, tree

A Kingsport motorist was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly wrecking her truck while reaching for her cell phone.

Police say she hit an embankment, sign post, two fences and a tree.

According to a report at the Kingsport Police Department, it occurred at about 2:48 p.m. on Westfield Place, near Cox Hollow Road. Lisa W. Richardson, 48, of 1241 Chestnut St., was allegedly driving her 2001 Ford Ranger north when she reached for her cell phone, ran off the road and hit an embankment.

Police say the pickup then hit a sign post belonging to the city of Kingsport, traveled through a property fence an into a yard.

"(The) Ford Ranger then traveled back across Westfield Place, hitting a fence and tree," reports the responding officer.

Richardson, who police say was driving on a license revoked for DUI, was arrested at the scene. She was charged with failure to maintain control and driving on a revoked license.
