Kingsport police made arrests at a fast food restaurant on Tuesday after a driver allegedly passed out behind the wheel in the drive-thru — then a passenger exited and walked up to the pick-up window, causing a "disturbance."

According to arrest reports, at about 11:30 p.m. police responded to a "possible DUI" at Taco Bell in Allandale, 100 Charles E. Brooks Jr. Way. Two officers responded to find a Dodge Stratus in the drive-thru with the engine running, but the driver "passed out."

Police say the vehicle contained "several open beer cases." When the driver was awakened and asked for her license she opened her pocketbook, with one officer allegedly seeing, "several pill bottles," inside.

While speaking with the woman, one of her passengers exited the vehicle, according to police, then, "walked to the food pick up window and began to cause a disturbance."

Police soon determined the man, Jeffrey L. Carter, 34, was under the influence. A search of Carter allegedly discovered he was in possession of two medication bottles, containing seven pills he was not prescribed. Police report Carter, who's address is listed as the streets of Church Hill, also had a pill crusher. He was arrested.

Meanwhile the driver, Crystal Wallen Lane, 34, of 1000 Stonegate Road, apartment G2, was asked to step from the vehicle. The report says she had droopy, bloodshot eyes, was disoriented and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and transported to the city jail.

Another man inside Lane's vehicle, Verlin W. Kerney, 32, was asked to exit the backseat. He allegedly began grabbing at his pockets, prompting police to question if he had anything illegal. He allegedly said he did not, but a pat down discovered a pill bottle containing two medications he was not prescribed.

Kerney, who also has an address listed as streets of Church Hill, was arrested, as well.
