Tennessee legislature ends with wrangling

The 106th General Assembly's active life ended early Thursday after a final round of efforts to resolve House-Senate disputes, more of them failing than succeeding.

The subjects ranged from the Tennessee Health Freedom Act, which prompted long and politically charged debate before falling six votes short of passage on the House floor, to a House move to revive 16 dead bills in an "omnibus" package that was killed by the Senate.

The legislature adjourned "sine die," a Latin phrase meaning it will not return, about 1:15 a.m. Thursday, with the Senate finishing a few minutes before the House.
