Police later answered a text message on one of the suspect's phone, setting up another buy and arresting two more suspects.
According to a report at the Kingsport Police Department, vice detectives were conducting surveillance in the parking lot of Walgreens, 1420 West Stone Drive. At about 11 p.m. they observed a Toyota Avalon enter the parking lot, with a woman then walking to it and entering the passenger seat.
Police report the activities were consistent with a drug deal, and they walked over to speak with the car's occupants. The report says it was determined that the driver, Kassie Whitehead, 19, of 1028 1/2 Vance Tank Road, Bristol, Tenn., had sold Lortabs to the woman that entered her car.
Whitehead was arrested and charged with delivery of schedule III narcotics.
Police say that while being booked into the city jail, police located marijuana and additional pills stuffed in Whitehead's pants. She was then additionally charged with possession of schedule IV and VI narcotics and introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
The woman that had allegedly purchased the Lortabs is identified as Megan A. Edman, 22, of 125 Coxes Springs Road, Fall Branch. Police say a search of her purse located marijuana, and she was arrested and charged with simple possession of schedule III and VI drugs.
The report states that during the arrests Edman's cell phone was confiscated as evidence.
"It received a text message and a deal was set up," reads the report."The deal was that the texter would be coming to our location to for the purpose of buying Lortabs from Edman."
Police say the texter arrived at the agreed upon location, though it is not specified in the report. Police report they confronted the man, Jeffrey W. Masterson, 47, of 1224 Morningside Circle, Kingsport. He was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to obtain schedule III drugs.
Police add that Masterson was driven to the deal by Donovan T. Melson, 23, address listed as Edman's home on Coxes Springs Road. He allegedly admitted to knowing he was driving Masterson to buy pills, and was also arrested and charged with attempt to obtain schedule III drugs.
Police say marijuana was found on Melson, at both the scene of the deal and later at the jail. He was then additionally charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
