The weapon was later discovered to be a cap gun.
According to a Kingsport police arrest report, the incident occurred at about 11:15 Thursday night. Officers were called to 224 East Sevier Ave., where the residents were found standing on the sidewalk.
The victims advised they had found a stranger, "messing around on their porch." The police report says that when they confronted the man, he started yelling at them and, "pulled a black handgun out of his pocket."
The residents told police that the man pointed the gun their direction and threatened to kill them. When the victims said they were calling police, the suspect walked away towards Tennessee Street, according to the report.
The reporting officer drove a few hundred yards to 126 Tennessee Street, where, "a male was being held down by two other individuals." The officer exited his squad car, ran to the scuffle and, "grabbed the suspect male and pulled him to the ground."
The officer says the man was found to have a, "black cap gun revolver" in his pocket. The report does not identify the individuals who detained the suspect, or if they were prompted to action by the incident on East Sevier Avenue.
Daniel P. Linneman, 37, of 126 Tennessee St., was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, public intoxication and being intoxicated while armed.
