According to Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal, the suspect is Shannon Cavin, 38, of Rogersville. He is charged with aggravated robbery in Washington County, with authorities expecting additional charges in other jurisdictions.
Kingsport Police Department Cpl. Frank Light reports an off-duty detective familiar with the robberies spotted the suspect's vehicle on East Carter's Valley Road, about 11:30 Thursday morning. The detective contacted central dispatch, with an officer in a patrol car then attempting to stop the car near the intersection of Carters Valley and Lynn Garden Drive.
Cavin allegedly fled down West Carters Valley Road into Hawkins County. Surgoinsville Police Chief Jeff Hesoun said other agencies became involved in the pursuit, with Cavin's vehicle being intercepted near the intersection of West Carters Valley and Bradley Creek Road.
Cavin then stopped his vehicle, according to Hesoun. He was arrested and transported to the Washington County jail in Jonesborough and is held on a $50,000 bond.
Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal confirmed the suspect is thought to have committed three robberies in the past week.
On Wednesday a man walked into People's Community Bank, 1706 Highway 93, Fall Branch, shortly before 1:30 p.m. He allegedly handed a teller a note that demanded money and stated he had a gun. Graybeal says that since Cavin's arrest, employees have positively identified him as the robber.
Tuesday evening a Kingsport Sunoco station, 4101 Fort Henry Drive, was robbed in the same manner. Likewise for Rick and Dot's Market, 2607 Highway 11-W, Surgoinsville, on Saturday night.
In each incident the suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money.
Hesoun says Cavin was developed as a suspect following tips to local authorities, spurned by surveillance video of the robberies that was presented on TimesNews.net and WCYB.
