A report at the Kingsport Police Department says an officer responded to McDonald's on East Stone Drive in reference to a fight. Police say employees reported that an intoxicated woman had been in the parking lot starting an altercation, then fled the scene in a red Honda.
Witnesses also claimed that while leaving the area the woman's car went over a curb behind Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 1616 East Stone Drive, hitting a tree.
While still in the McDonald's parking lot an employee flagged the officer down, reporting the car had just driven back past the restaurant. The employee obtained a licence tag number, with the officer locating the vehicle just down East Stone Drive.
The report says the car, which had damage to the front passenger side, was stopped in the parking lot of Waffle House. The driver, identified as Stephanie E. Wright, 18, of 1222 Pine St., allegedly had an odor of alcohol and fresh scratches on her face.
Wright reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. The officer reports that a passenger in the Honda confirmed that Wright had hit the tree behind Enterprise with her car.
While attempting to check Wright for weapons she allegedly pulled away from the officer on at least two occasions, saying she could get in the car on her own. The officer then placed an additional charge of resisting arrest, stop or frisk.
