Two Kingsport women — attending an order of protection hearing to provide support for their respective children — were arrested Tuesday after allegedly engaging in a knock-down, drag-out fight outside the courtroom.

According to a Kingsport police arrest report, the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Sharon K. Larkins, 53, of 355 Hood Road, and Kathy E. Condry, 54, of 1000 Stonegate Road, apartment No. P14, were each arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and fighting.

Cpl. Tim Horne, who was seated in General Session Court, reports hearing "screaming and profanity" from just outside the entrance. In the Justice Center hallway, he and two deputies found two women, "engaged in a battle of hair pulling while using profanity towards each other."

Horne said on Wednesday that they were rolling on the floor, throwing punches and pulling each other's hair out at the roots. It allegedly took several minutes and physical force to break up the tussle, as they repeatedly ignored police orders to cease.

The altercation attracted numerous bystanders, according to the police report, who then blocked the doorway and impeded others from exiting the courtroom.

"It was pretty childish really," Horne said. "They were like, 'You let go.' 'No, you let go.' And it wasn't just holding each other by the hair — they were pulling it out at the roots."

Horne said the judge had adjourned court moments before the fight erupted, or else the pair would have been charged with disrupting a judicial hearing.
